Everywares is a zero waste product company offering reusables solutions for both food and drinks. They currently sell just direct to consumer, but are working to design and implement a community wide container exchange pilot program.

About Everywares

Everywares sells stainless steel take-out containers for food and drink. As of April 2020, they sell reusables direct to consumer, and are also partnered with several restaurants in Fairfax, San Anselmo, and Petaluma, California, to encourage diners to bring their own containers.

Legislation in the city of Fairfax will require all takeout containers to be organic compostable or reusable starting in July 2020. In response to this legislation, Everywares is designing a community wide container exchange program. The first phase of the exchange program will be to have customers purchase their own containers for $15-$20. Customers will then be able to bring their container to any participating restaurant and exchange it for a sanitized container. Benefits to participating restaurants should include long term cost savings, as restaurants won’t need to purchase as many organic compostable disposables.

The Container

Everywares sells several different reusables options. Their take out container is made of stainless steel, which is 100% recyclable. They sell a collapsible silicone cup, and insulated snack bag, a canvas tote and stainless steel utensils and straws.

How it Works

In the first phase of the exchange program customers will purchase their own containers for $15-20. Customers will then be able to bring this container to any participating restaurant and exchange it for a sanitized container carried by the restaurant. If restaurants need more sanitized containers in stock, Everywares will provide restock, but restaurants will be responsible for washing containers that customers drop off. As demand grows, Everywares plans to introduce a centralized washing location. Everywares will also provide sponsored customer outreach.

Pilots/current implementation

Everywares is working to design and implement a community wide container exchange pilot program in Fairfax, CA. They need at least 5 restaurants to participate.
